Living with Epilepsy
Many patients fail to take epilepsy medications as directed
About half of patients with epilepsy do not take their medications as prescribed. There are various reasons for this. Unpleasant side effects associated with some medications can discourage patients. The practice of using multiple drugs (known as polytherapy) with different dosing schedules can cause confusion. But regardless of the reasons, straying from the prescribed regimen can put epilepsy patients at an increased risk for seizures.
